Microsoft 365 users can breathe a sigh of relief as the company is updating its policy regarding offline access of applications. The previous policy stated that the devices must connect to the internet at least once every 30 days to ensure that all apps are up to date. Now, the time-frame has been extended to 180 days, and this will help remote users and other workers who may be working for long periods without internet access.
“We’re now providing extended offline access* to enable devices to stay activated without connecting to the internet for up to 180 days. Workers in secure or remote environments who are offline for long periods of time can continue using Microsoft 365 Apps to stay productive on-the-job without worrying about being cut off from the tools they need most after 30 days,” the company said in a blog post.
Organizations however should contact their Microsoft account representative to check their eligibility for this extended offline access functionality. The blog post further explains how to set up the apps for offline use. Microsoft also announced that it will be launching device-based subscriptions for shared devices.
